Bigger can be the point
Icon of the Seas is Royal Caribbean saying the quiet part out loud — bigger can be the point. We’d put a mixed family or friend group here when they want neighborhoods, water thrills, and Broadway-scale evenings more than hush.
We experience Icon as a stacked resort town, not one endless hallway. Surfside is where we send toddlers and tired parents; Central Park for greenery and evening music; Chill Island for the pool day; Thrill Island when someone wants slides; AquaDome when you want glass, waterfalls, and a show after dark. Our advice is simple: pick a home-base neighborhood on day one so you enjoy a ship this size instead of fighting it.
Cabins are why we like her for multi-gen trips. Most rooms sleep three or more, balconies dominate, and Infinite Balconies give you a weather plan without jumping to suite money. Family Infinite Balconies and Surfside Family Suites are the categories we pressure-test first with kids in the party, so ask us about location before you lock anything.
Evenings, we lean on the complimentary core and save specialty for one or two just-because nights, while shows at the Royal Theater, AquaDome, and Absolute Zero are a real reason we’d choose her over a quieter ship. Versus Oasis Plus, we see Icon as the newer chapter: clearer family zoning, bigger waterpark muscle, and AquaDome instead of the outdoor stern theater. ICON was Royal Caribbean Group’s first all-new class after years of Oasis and Quantum growth. The brief: outscale Oasis Plus while adding dual-fuel LNG, shore power, waste-heat recovery, air lubrication, and fuel-cell systems. Sisters Star (2025), Legend (2026), and Hero (2027) share the design — Icon is the ship sailing now and the class template.
Neighborhoods define the product: Surfside for young families, AquaDome under glass, Category 6 waterpark, Central Park, Chill Island and Hideaway pools, Suite Neighborhood up top. Deployment has been Miami Eastern and Western Caribbean weeks that typically include Perfect Day at CocoCay, with Galveston announced from August 2027.
