Why cruise from Los Angeles?
A few reasons cruisers keep sailing from here.
- Mexican Riviera without a Florida flight — Cabo, Mazatlán, Puerto Vallarta on 5–10 night loops
- World Cruise Center in San Pedro — two berths built for the largest ships
- LAX is 25 miles north — one of the world's busiest airports with competitive fares
- Drive market for SoCal, Arizona, and Nevada — many guests skip flying entirely
- Seasonal variety — Mexico staples year-round plus Alaska repositioning and longer Pacific sailings
Getting there
Airports, drives, and transfer tips for embarkation day.
- Fly into LAX (about 25 miles) or Long Beach (LGB, closer but fewer flights)
- San Pedro is south of downtown LA — allow 45–90 minutes from LAX in traffic
- Amtrak serves San Pedro; rideshare and shuttles are common on embarkation days
- Many SoCal guests drive — compare hotel park-and-cruise packages near the port
Terminals & parking
Los Angeles World Cruise Center has two terminals in San Pedro. Your cruise line assigns the berth — check documents before booking parking. On-port parking is available; off-site lots with shuttles are an alternative. Drop luggage at the terminal before parking when possible.
Best time to cruise from Los Angeles
Mexican Riviera sailings run year-round, with the steadiest weather October through May. Summer brings family travel and warm Baja water; Pacific hurricane season (June–November) mainly affects southern Mexico itineraries rather than the port itself.
Spring and fall shoulder weeks often balance fares and crowds. Repositioning cruises to Alaska or Hawaii appear on select ships in spring and fall — always confirm embark port on the itinerary.
